SB man dies after beating – City’s 46th homicide of the year
According to police Lt. Paul Williams, in year 2012, 47 homicides were recorded in the city of San Bernardino. Before the celebration of Christmas last year, the number of homicide cases in the city hit 46, one less than the total for 2012. Authorities said, the 39-year-old victim, died after a beating on West Union Street on Sunday morning. He died about 12:15 p.m. at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton while a 20-year-old San Bernardino man who also sustained head trauma from the beating was treated and released.
Investigators determined that a co-worker of the deceased man was a suspect. Gerald Gonzales, 20, of Highland was arrested in connection with the homicide. They found Gonzales on Union Street and arrested him without incident, and he was taken to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Authorities said it appears a dispute led to the deadly altercation.
