Police Arrest Alleged UCLA ‘Peeping Tom’
Whether guilty or innocent, those accused of a crime, no matter how ‘minor’, have a tough time ahead of them. Even the accusation is often enough to tarnish someone’s reputation and tilt circumstances in favor of the prosecution. The right defense attorney can make all the difference in the verdict. At times, the right attorney can even remove the need for a trial entirely.
There have been a number of reports of a “peeping tom” around UCLA and nearby residences in Westwood, but it may all be over after the arrest of a 47-year-old man by UCLA police, according to reports.
The suspect had asked an acquaintance of his to keep his belongings and buy him a ticket to Santa Barbara from Amtrak under an assumed name, media sources say.
According to police, the suspect seems to be a match for about eight of the peeping suspects in the Westwood area since March.
A newspaper reported that three of these eight incidents took place since the suspects May arrest on charges of disorderly conduct after he was caught looking into another building. He never showed up for his arraignment and police issued a wanted poster in July.
The suspect had been arrested by campus police before. The previous incident was in 2007 for probable cause burglary. He was observed looking into an apartment on Ophir Drive, even trying to open the door, according to police.
For the current charges, the suspect was held at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles in lieu of $30,000 bail.
