ICE Operation Yields 56 Convicted Sex Offenders
A criminal arrest has many ramifications. Officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 57 foreign nationals, all of whom had been previously convicted of sexual offenses, during a three-day operation in the Los Angeles area, according to officials.
The operation resulted in 31 arrests in Los Angeles County, 11 in San Bernardino County, eight in Riverside County, four in Orange County, two in Ventura County, and one more in Santa Barbara County, said officials with ICE.
Among those arrested was a 38-year-old man from Mexico, convicted of rape in California in 1999. He had previously been deported, but illegally re-entered the United States. ICE agents arrested him in Hesperia. He is currently being prosecuted for felony illegal re-entry after deportation, which could get him up to 20 years in prison.
A 49-year-old Samoan man was also arrested from a residence in Long Beach. He had previously been convicted of committing lewd acts on a child. Another caught in the police operation was a 24-year-old Filipino man in Oxnard who was convicted of sending obscene material to a minor in 2013.
These two men were held by ICE without bond and are likely to be deported.
