Founding Member of Lynyrd Skynyrd Dies in Car Crash

download (37)A founding member and former drummer of the legendary Southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on April 4th. According to a spokesperson for the Georgia State Patrol, Robert Burns Jr., 64, was killed when his vehicle went off a road as it approached a curve, striking a mailbox and into a tree. The accident happened just before midnight near Cartersville, GA.

Burns was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Robert Burns was one of five musicians who founded the band in Jacksonville, Florida. Burns departed the group in 1974.
