Fiery Crash in Silverado
A 19-year-old man is dead and another man is left with serious burns in a fiery crash in Silverado on Sunday.
Investigators with the California Highway Patrol believe that speed played a role in the accident that killed the driver of the vehicle, Cesar Hernandez, 19, of Santa Ana.
Investigators say that just before 2:00 a.m., Hernandez crashed his 1995 Nissan into a tree along Santiago Canyon Road, causing the car to burst into flames.
The Orange County Fire Authority emergency crews were dispatched to Santiago Canyon Road north of Modjeska Canyon Road. Two passersby had been able to pull the passenger out of burning car, but were unable to save the driver.
The passenger in the vehicle has been identified by the CHP as Alejandro Lopez of Santa Ana. Lopez suffered second and third degree burns to his hands, arms and legs. Lopez was transported to the burn center at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and is listed in serious condition.
