Emergency Responders Share Lessons Learned
A recent meeting was held involving healthcare and law enforcement officials. The topic of the meeting was security in times of chaos. Interestingly, the meeting was not in response to the recent Orlando mass shooting, but was purely coincidental. The meeting had been scheduled prior to the shooting.
The keynote speakers at the summit were the first responders to the recent San Bernardino shooting. They are now sharing what they learned with others.
The 2015 shooting in San Bernardino left 14 people dead and 21 more wounded. Hundreds of first responders arrived on scene and were immediately reminded of one fact: Despite the size or popularity of your town, tragedies can happen anywhere.
The meeting focused on handling security in times of distress. The handling of these emergencies crossed all areas: information, physical and cyber security. First responders from San Bernardino walked the group from beginning to end, sharing information and techniques that worked and didn’t work.
The idea is to expect the unexpected. To train for what seems as though it may be impossible. Handling chaos in the face of emergency is something that every law enforcement agency, fire department and hospital needs to be prepared for.
