Drunk Driving Rampage in Palos Verdes
A 66-year-old man has been charged in connection with a 2013 incident involving a drunken driving rampage through the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The incident happened on September 26, 2013 when William Thomas Kelly, 66, ran a cyclist off the road. After the bicyclist yelled at Kelly, he proceeded to back his car over the bike, nearly hitting the bicyclist.
Prosecutors say that Kelly then allegedly proceeded to crash his car into other vehicles and aimed his car at potentially running down nine other people. Prosecutors say police found Kelly with injuries inside of his damaged car after having rammed several locked fences. Kelly has pleaded not guilty to 10 felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two felony counts of criminal threats, six misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run driving, and a felony count each of DUI causing injury and vandalism of over $400.
Authorities say that Kelly is currently being held on $520,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 15th.
Kelly, if convicted of all charges, faces a maximum possible sentence of 15 years and eight months in state prison, with an additional two years jail time in Los Angeles county jail.
