Bus Driver with Students Charged with DUI
A parent has enough to worry about every day without needing to be concerned whether or not their child is going to be safe going to and from school. When you see them off to school in the morning by putting them on a school bus, it is a reasonable expectation that the person driving the bus knows that they are the responsible for precious cargo and behave accordingly. But that doesn’t always happen. In the Napa Valley Unified School District, a school bus driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol while transporting 28 students back home from school.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Marc Respurger, the bus driver has been identified as Jaquida Parker, 24, of Vallejo. Parker was arrested after eyewitnesses reported a school bus that was blocking a road in an unincorporated area in Napa County. Reports indicate that the driver had been attempting to turn the bus around but instead got stuck.
CHP officers arrived on the scene and administered sobriety tests to Parker which he failed. Parker is currently facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol as well as child endangerment.
Authorities say that no students were injured in the incident.
No doubt it is a relief to the parents of the children who were on the bus that no one was hurt. Given the circumstances, the situation could have turned out much worse.
