Arcadia Rollover Crash Claims 3 Lives

On December 13 at about 1:50 a.m., a sedan overturned in Arcadia, at the intersection of Las Tunas Drive and Live Oak Avenue. The driver hit a wall and flipped. At the scene, three people were pronounced dead. One of the victims, Raymond Daniel Yniquez, age 21, was the assistant softball coach at Arroyo High School. The other two victims were Marcus J. Garcia, age 21, and Anna Lissa Velazquez, who had turned 25 just the day before. Garcia was the driver during the accident.
According to official reports, one other man was in the car at the time of the accident. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they freed the fourth victim and rushed him to Methodist Hospital of Southern California. He sustained significant injuries, but survived. Family members have identified him as Ryan Hernandez, age 23.
Police Sergeant Dan Crowther said the car was westbound on Live Oak Avenue. The driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a wall before overturning. Police say the accident is still under investigation, but believe speed may have been a factor in the crash. The four victims were out Monday night into Tuesday morning celebrating Velazquez’s birthday.
The night after the crash, a vigil was held at the scene of the accident. About 100 people gathered with candles and memorial messages. A vigil at Arroyo High School was also held on December 16 in honor of Yniquez.
Traffic was shut down on Live Oak Avenue and Las Tunas Drive, both eastbound and westbound, for several hours while the accident was being investigated and cleaned up. Anyone who has information about the accident is encouraged to contact either the Arcadia Police Department or LA Crime Stoppers.
