Fatal Accident Caused by Wheel Falling Off Car
Sometimes an accident doesn’t come from the fault of a driver but from improper vehicle care. Cars wear out over time. If they are not maintained, parts can fall off and cause injury to the driver and to others.
A recent case where this happened was in Lancaster. A driver was going down Avenue N near 35th street at about 50 MPH. His rear driver’s side wheel suddenly came off. The driver lost control and rolled the SUV onto the shoulder. He was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The wheel bounced into traffic and hit a second vehicle. It caused moderate damage to the car and injured that driver. Fortunately, a sheriff’s sergeant witnessed the entire thing and called medical personnel.
We will never know what actually caused the wheel to fall off. It could have been a bad joint, a lack of lug nuts, or a bad repair job at mechanic. In freak accidents like this, it can be hard to determine who is responsible and who must pay for the damages. Unfortunately for the driver of the SUV, he had to pay with his life.
