Air Bag Recall for 1.6 MIllion BMW’s
All companies that manufacture items for the general public have a responsibility to make sure their product is safe. This is especially true when it comes to transportation. Most adults in the United States drive a car. These vehicles should all be as safe as possible when they come off the factory floor and sent to a dealership.
BMW is enacting a massive recall of its most popular models due to a problem with its airbags that is affect a great deal of the global auto industry.
The German company is recalling more than one and a half million 3-Series cars from model years 2000 to 2006, call over the world. Almost 574,000 of these will come from the United States. It is merely a precaution, the company states, because other automakers using similar airbag systems have reported problems.
The system in question has a tendency to rupture the airbag inflators. Not only will the airbags not deploy when needed, but shards from the inflator might be expelled, causing injury.
Millions of vehicles have been recalled due to this problem by many companies, including Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, and Toyota. These recalls have largely been from states with hot and humid weather.
BMW stated it has had no report of any problems, but nonetheless, dealers will replace the passenger-side front airbags. All vehicles with potentially faulty airbag systems are being called, no matter where they were sold.
The company which made the airbags is supporting all investigation efforts, according to a statement from that company.
