Pomona Police Officer Injured in Accident
A Pomona Police officer was on his way to a car accident on January 10 when he was involved in an accident of his own. According to officials, the accident involving the motorcycle officer occurred at Garfield Avenue and North Garey Avenue at about 6:30 a.m.
Reports did not name the officer, but did say that he was on his way to a crash involving a fatality in the 2200 block of Garey Avenue. The California Highway Patrol said that the officer was traveling northbound when a Ford Explorer travelling southbound turned in front of the officer. The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the Explorer, sending the officer from the motorcycle. The officer sustained major head trauma in the accident.
Reports stated that the officer did not have his lights or sirens on, and that the 22-year-old driver had not been charged. Officers were working to determine whether drugs, alcohol or distracted driving had a part in the accident.
The original accident involved a pedestrian and a vehicle. The pedestrian was struck by the vehicle and the driver fled the scene. The driver eventually returned to the scene and turned himself in.
