Former SNL Comedian Names Walmart in Negligence Lawsuit
It is the duty of any company to make sure its employees are well-trained, not only for its financial wellbeing, but for the safety of its employees, customers, and anyone else who might be affected. When a company fails in this duty, it is their responsibility to compensate their victims.
A former star of “Saturday Night Live”, Tracy Morgan, has recently been released from a medical rehabilitation facility where he was healing from serious injuries caused by a car crash that killed another comedian, according to his spokesman.
The spokesman stated his client will finish his recovery at home with an “aggressive outpatient program”.
On June 7th, the comedian’s limousine van was struck from behind by a drugstore truck on the New Jersey Turnpike. He sustained a broken leg and broken ribs. A 62-year-old comedian was killed in the crash, and two other people were injured.
Lawyers for Morgan filed a lawsuit against the drugstore, claiming negligence on the part of the driver who rammed the limousine van. According to the complaint, the store should have been aware their driver had been awake for more than 24 hours and that his 700 mile commute from his home in Georgia when his job was in Delaware was “unreasonable”. The complaint also claims the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Also, the lawsuit calls for a jury trial and punitive and compensatory damages.
The drugstore company says it is “cooperating fully” in the investigation.
As for the driver of the truck, the 35-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to death by auto and assault by auto. He is also accused of not sleeping for more than 24 hours before the crash, which is against New Jersey law.
