Executive who Died from Distracted Driving Honored by Bike Ride
The passing of prominent entertainment lawyer and former Napster executive in December was commemorated by a 30 mile bike ride this past week.
The ride that was made up of more than 100 bicyclists went from Calabasas to Los Angeles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday near the site of the accident where Milt Olin, Jr. was struck and killed. it happened around the 22000 block of Mulholland Drive in Calabasas by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy, Andrew Wood in December of last year. Allegedly, Wood had been distracted by an on board computer in his vehicle at the time of the fatal crash. Olin, 65, died at the scene of the crash.
It doesn’t matter who you are, or what your position is in society; distracted driving effects everyone. Whether someone is texting while driving, talking on a cellphone, using a mobile computer or changing a song on a digital music player, such distractions take a driver’s attention off the road just long enough for an accident to happen. Distracted driving has also been found to be even more dangerous than driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Researchers at Virginia Tech did a study where they found that someone who is driving while distracted is as much as 23 times more likely to be involved in a collision than drivers who are not distracted behind the wheel and who keep their eyes and their minds on the road.
