Canadian Teen Arrested for “swatting” in US
Sometimes it isn’t only ourselves that need good legal representation. It can also be our children or other loved ones who can’t acquire that representation on their own. The best attorneys are those who understand how important these people are to their clients, no matter what mistakes they may have made. These attorneys will fight as hard as they can to protect the rights of the child or other loved ones at all times against the efforts of sometimes overeager prosecution.
A 16-year-old Canadian boy has been arrested by the FBI and Quebec police, believed to have made dozens of phone calls involving prank threats to various locations, including schools in Riverside.
The teenager was arrested by Ottawa police after an investigation conducted by both Canadian and American authorities, according to the FBI.
Authorities say the boy called various places with threats that caused lockdown procedures in schools across the country, including Stockton, Florida, New York, Connecticut, and Riverside. Police did not disclose which schools were called in Riverside.
Ottawa police seized phones, computers, guns, and ammunition following the teen’s arrest.
The suspect is believed to have called these schools with false sightings of hostages, bombs, or active shooters on campus, in a practice called “swatting”. The name comes from calling in a large police presence to a major incident which drains resources that could better be used elsewhere.
In Canada, the teenager was charged with 60 counts, including public mischief, mischief to property, uttering death threats, and conveying false information with intent to alarm. He will be tried in Ottawa.
