Bull Causes Accident and Shuts Down Highway
You are driving down a highway and see the glowing eyes of an animal staring back at you from the side of the road. It’s not entirely uncommon to find yourself in this situation. What you may find unusual is if that animal ends up being larger than your normal raccoon or deer. Say, bull sized?
Imagine the surprise when drivers on the East Bay highway saw a black bull wandering in the roadway. The bull was hit by a car and killed, and the result of the first accident was a chain-reaction crash involving five more cars.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the bull was in the fast lane along a stretch of dark highway. A local ranch owner said that the bull likely slipped through a fence that had been damaged by the recent onslaught of storms. The animal was valued at nearly $10,000.
While the ranch owner said that the thought of any of his large animals in the roadway was terrifying, he was glad that no one was killed in the crash. The scene could have easily been much different. The accident temporarily closed all lanes on eastbound Highway 4.
Earlier the same day, loose horses were discovered on a highway in Contra Costa County. Traffic was brought to a stop, but no collisions occurred.
While coming across large animals in the roadway is something many people will never experience, it is a possibility. Drivers are urged to stay aware of their surroundings at all times, especially when passing through an area dotted with ranches and farms.
