50-year Veteran Officer Dies in San Bernardino
SAN BERNARDINO – A San Bernardino reserve police officer with 50-years on the force died last week from complications associated with Leukemia at the age of 78.
According to reports, Richard Dewberry began his career with the department in 1965. He worked in various departments, holding responsibilities for investigations, traffic enforcement and prisoner transport. He was a firearms instructor and caretaker of the police range until it closed to the public.
Police Sgt. Vicki Cervantes said, “He was an amazing man with a huge heart. Richard was a man of integrity. He always put others before himself and gave all he had to his family, the community and the Police Department during his 50 years of service with our agency. He will be profoundly missed.”
Dewberry accumulated more than 38,000 volunteer hours with the department before he died. The police range was dedicated to honor the tireless volunteer and is now known as the Dewberry Range.
Not only did this man who will be remembered by many volunteer with the police department, but he spent 32 years working for the 7-Up Bottling Company in their sales office.
The reserve officer passed away at home surrounded by loved ones. Funeral arrangements were not available when his obituary was published.
